Clive Vale travelled to the picturesque Ashburnham ground for their final fixture of the season.
Asked to bat first on a good batting wicket, Vale openers Andy Hayes (48) and Adam Wickens (49) put on 85 for the first wicket before A.Baker (3-30) came into the attack to bowl with good control and late outswing. Unfortunately he was the only wicket taker for Ashburnham and Vale managed to pile on the runs thanks to "Brook Bros" Carl (73 not out) and Steve (29 not out).
In reply opener Pagan (69) kept Ashburnham in with a chance of making the total however he eventually fell to Matt Bowles (2-31). More wickets fell from the bowling of Ivan Buss (2-27), Carl Brook (1-19) and Steve Brook (1-33) but the Ashburnham batsman continued to resist.
With light deteriorating both teams agreed to the draw.
So that concluded matters for another season but there was one more challenge that the Vale players had to overcome - locating the pub. After missing the turning, the team ended up in the next village and so subsequently stopped in the local pub before picking up the trail again.
Eventually the pub was found.
